University of Arizona Service and Educational Activities
I was Department Head from 2000-2007 for a large Geosciences Department that has 27 faculty, 75 graduate students, and 80 undergraduate students. As Head I helped coordinate a large range of educational activities. I have also served on many departmental and University committees, including the Search committee for the Dean of the College of Science, 5-year review committee for the Dean of the College of Science, and the Department of Geosciences graduate admissions committee. I was co-advisor to the Society of Earth Science Students, our undergraduate geology club for 6 years, and I helped the students organize a major educational outreach program at the annual Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. The undergraduate students set up hands-on geology activities and give out several thousand mineral kits each year to kids at the show.
