Faculty mentoring is an opportunity for you to interact with faculty in a less intimidating situation. The program allows you to gain greater insight about your classes and how they might relate to your post-graduate goals.
Meeting with a faculty mentor can help you to:
-
Identify which of the three geosciences sub-plans are a good fit for your goals.
-
Get advice on graduate study or future plans.
-
Make suggestions for self-improvement, books to read, etc.
-
Help you identify professional opportunities like research, internships, professional conferences and organizations, etc.
-
Be a resource for letters of recommendation when it comes time to apply for internships, jobs, or graduate school. They can write much better letters if they know you as more than a face in a crowd.
- This is the time for you to really understand how you do in the classroom is connected to what geoscientists actually do in the real world.
