Scholarship Universe

Departmental Scholarships

The Fall 2021 departmental scholarship application period is opening soon!

The Department of Geosciences currently offers several scholarships to qualified undergraduate students. There are approximately $42,000 in scholarships to be awarded for Fall 2021! The requirements and deadlines for each of the scholarships may differ. Departmental scholarship funds will be awarded at the largest award value feasible whenever possible and based on available funds, as well as the number of eligible applicants. Scholarship funds may be awarded between multiple eligible applicants or may be combined to provide more meaningful awards when available funds allow.

      Fall 2021 non-research-based Departmental Scholarship applications are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, 10/25/2021.

      Non--research-based Departmental Scholarships are available to eligible applicants who submit a Geosciences Undergraduate Scholarship Application by 5 p.m. on Monday, 10/25/2021. This includes the following scholarships. Additional scholarship-specific eligibility criteria are included below.

      Fall 2021 research-based Departmental Scholarship application proposals are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, 11/01/2021.

      Research-based Departmental Scholarships are available to eligible applicants who submit a Geosciences Undergraduate Research Fund Proposal Application by 5 p.m. on Monday, 11/01/2021. Contact your Faculty Research Advisor immediately to discuss this scholarship opportunity! This includes the following scholarships. Additional scholarship-specific eligibility criteria are included below.

      • George H. Davis Undergraduate Research Fund
      • Orlo E. Childs Scholarship
      • Paul E. Damon Memorial Scholarship Endowment

      Field Camp Scholarship opportunities are posted on the Field Camp section of our website.

        Geosciences is able to offer need-based program fee reimbursements for Geosciences majors each Fall and Spring semester.

        Award amounts depend on the number of applicants and the availability of funds.

        Eligible students who apply for this award will automatically be considered for additional GEOS non-research-based scholarships for which they meet all scholarship-specific eligibility criteria.

        To apply, you must:

        1. Be a current, full-time enrolled Geosciences major in any degree sub-plan and have paid your Fall 2021 GEOS Program Fee.
        2. Be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen of the United States.
          • If not a US citizen, you must meet the additional criteria outlined here.
        3. Have a completed 2021-2022 FAFSA at UA that demonstrates financial need.
        4. Have a minimum 2.0 Cumulative GPA.
        5. Submit the [link] application by 5 p.m. on Monday, 10/25/2021. 
          • The application includes a statement of your financial need (250 word limit).

        The Antevs Scholarship fund will provide a scholarship for undergraduate or graduate students at the University of Arizona who are graduates of any High School within Gila County, Arizona, who show scholastic promise, and who have demonstrated financial need .

        Eligible students who apply for a GEOS Program Fee Scholarship will automatically be considered for this additional scholarship.

        To apply, you must:

        1. Be a current Geosciences major in any degree sub-plan.
        2. Be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen of the United States.
          • If not a US citizen, you must meet the additional criteria outlined here.
        3. Have a completed 2021-2022 FAFSA at UA that demonstrates financial need.
        4. Have a minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA.
        5. Have graduated from a High School within Gila County, Arizona.
        6. Submit the [link] application by 5 p.m. on Monday, 10/25/2021.

          The Friends of Kartchner Caverns Scholarship fund will provide a scholarship for undergraduate students at the University of Arizona who are actively enrolled in the Geosciences major.

          Eligible students who apply for a GEOS Program Fee Scholarship will automatically be considered for this additional scholarship.

          To apply, you must:

          1. Be a current, part-time or full-time enrolled Geosciences major in any degree sub-plan.
          2. Have a minimum 2.0 Cumulative GPA.

          The Winslow-Ruben-Myron Shared Scholarship fund will provide a scholarship for undergraduate students at the University of Arizona who have Junior or Senior class standing, show exceptional academic ability, and have demonstrated financial need .

          Eligible students who apply for a GEOS Program Fee Scholarship will automatically be considered for this additional scholarship.

          To apply, you must:

          1. Be a current Geosciences major in any degree sub-plan.
          2. Be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen of the United States.
            • If not a US citizen, you must meet the additional criteria outlined here.
          3. Have a completed 2021-2022 FAFSA at UA that demonstrates financial need.
          4. Have a minimum 3.0 Cumulative GPA.
          5. Have Junior or Senior class standing, which you can check in your UAccess Student Center.
          6. Submit the [link] application by 5 p.m. on Monday, 10/25/2021.

            The W. Voorhees Memorial scholarship fund will provide a scholarship for a sophomore in geology with a minimum 2.5 GPA and has demonstrated financial need.

            Eligible students who apply for a GEOS Program Fee Scholarship will automatically be considered for this additional scholarship.

            To apply, you must:

            1. Be a current Geosciences major in any degree sub-plan.
              • Students within the Geology sub-plan will be given preference.
            2. Be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen of the United States.
              • If not a US citizen, you must meet the additional criteria outlined here.
            3. Have a completed 2021-2022 FAFSA at UA that demonstrates financial need.
            4. Have a minimum 2.5 Cumulative GPA.
            5. Have Sophomore class standing, which you can check in your UAccess Student Center.
            6. Submit the [link] application by 5 p.m. on Monday, 10/25/2021.

            The Wilson Thompson Scholarship fund will provide a scholarship for undergraduate students at the University of Arizona who are actively enrolled in the Geosciences major and with interest in environmental studies.

            Eligible students who apply for a GEOS Program Fee Scholarship will automatically be considered for this additional scholarship.

            To apply, you must:

            1. Be a current, part-time or full-time enrolled Geosciences major in any degree sub-plan and has an interest in environmental studies.
              • Students who are currently declared in an environmental studies-related minor or second major will be given priority preference..
              • Students who are currently declared in the Earth, Oceans and Climate sub-plan will be given secondary preference.
            2. Have a minimum 2.0 Cumulative GPA.
            3. Submit the [link] application by 5 p.m. on Monday, 10/25/2021.

            The George H. Davis Undergraduate Research Fund provides support for undergraduate students who participate in a Geosciences Department research project.

            To apply, you must:

            1. Be a current, full-time enrolled Geosciences major in any degree sub-plan and actively involved in GEOS-related research that contributes to solving geologic problems.
              • Students who are conducting research for credit, pay, or on a volunteer basis are eligible to apply.
            • Students who hope to engage in research in the future should consider applying for this funding opportunity once they have secured a research position.

            The Orlo E. Childs Scholarship fund provides support for undergraduate students with academic excellence and financial need.

            Preference is shown to students conducting research on the geology of the Colorado Plateau or Rocky Mountains.

            To apply, you must:

            1. Be a current, full-time enrolled Geosciences major in any degree sub-plan and actively involved in GEOS-related research that contributes to solving geologic problems.
              • Students who are conducting research for credit, pay, or on a volunteer basis are eligible to apply.
            2. Have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
            3. Be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen of the United States.
              • If not a US citizen, you must meet the additional criteria outlined here.
            4. Have a completed 2021-2022 FAFSA at UA that demonstrates financial need.
            5. Submit an electronic proposal in pdf format for Fall 2021 funding to Shawna Matteson by 5 p.m. on Monday, 11/01/2021.

            The Paul E. Damon Memorial Scholarship fund provides support for full-time enrolled undergraduate students in good academic standing with financial need.

            Preference is shown to students who are conducting research involving geochronology.

            1. Be a current, full-time enrolled Geosciences major in any degree sub-plan and actively involved in GEOS-related research that contributes to solving geologic problems.
              • Students who are conducting research for credit, pay, or on a volunteer basis are eligible to apply.
            2. Have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
            3. Be a U.S. Citizen or an eligible non-citizen of the United States.
              • If not a US citizen, you must meet the additional criteria outlined here.
            4. Have a completed 2021-2022 FAFSA at UA that demonstrates financial need.
