These are some photos of excavations, camp and village life near
Rostov-on-Don, Russia, where in August, 2001, I joined in an
archeological dig at Chastie Kurgany. The excavation of an 11th-century
Turkic burial
mound included an international team organized by Jeannine
Davis-Kimball of the Center for the
Study of Eurasian Nomads, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Donskaya Archaeologia
— Russia’s only private archaeological journal. Our work is detailed in
the PBS documentary "Secrets of the
Dead: Amazon Warrior Women." This section is still under
construction.
