How to compute your grade
-
The final exam is optional. Therefore, there are two ways to compute your final grade, depending upon whether you
take the final or not.
-
Grade based on midterms and discussion group papers:
- Discussion Group Grade: Add up the total of your six papers. The sum cannot exceed 60. Multiply this sum by 5/9.
- Midterm Grade: Add up the total of your two midterms. The sum cannot exceed 200. Divide the sum by 3.
- Total Grade: Add up the Discussion Group Grade and the Midterm Grade. This is your grade out of 100.
-
Grade based on midterms, discussion group papers and final:
- Discussion Group Grade: Add up the total of your six papers. The sum cannot exceed 60. Multiply this sum by 5/9.
- Midterm plus Final Grade: The final exam will be graded out of 200. Divide the final grade in half.
Add up the total of your two midterms plus the final divided by 2. The sum cannot exceed 300.
Multiply this sum by 2/9.
- Total Grade: Add up the Discussion Group Grade and the Midterm plus Final Grade. This is your grade out of 100.
-
If you participated in the "I was there" emails, then you can add 5 points to your total grade.
Letter grades are assigned as laid out in the syllabus.
A (>85%), B (75-85%), C (65-75%), D (55-65%), F (<55%)
