Research | Climate Dynamics
Climate dynamics is the study of how the climate system has varied and why, with the ultimate goal of understanding what will happen in the future. In the Department of Geosciences, we focus on integrating the perspectives gained from the study of instrumental and satellite observations with that derived from paleoclimatic records. Thus, we study climate variability on seasonal to millennial, even tectonic timescales, and focus on the full range of hypothesized climate forcing mechanisms. Our climate dynamics work is integrated with that of colleagues in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences, Laboratory of Tree Ring Research, Department of Geography and Regional Development, and elsewhere on campus. Our focus is global and on understanding the linkages between the dominant climate systems of the world.
