In polar view, ridges high and triangular, narrowing to a sharp crest.

NOTES: Pollen of this species is among the largest of the Ephedra torreyana type. The ridges are highly undulate to nearly straight. In southwestern North America its pollen will be most frequently confused with that of E. california and E. pedunculata.
