The Tilia Graph©
program uses the percentage file created by Tilia© to produce a pollen
diagram. Unlike Tilia©, the program is commercial software. You can
use the computer in the pollen lab (G-S 332) to create the tilia graph file,
or contact Eric Grimm
to purchase a copy. ($250) |
![]() After the startup screen has loaded, select [N] File from the menu ![]() and then [A] Load Enter the name of the percentage tilia file you created (example harding%.til) or press Enter to select its name from a list of files. Note: when loading a Tilia (.til) file, the program will by default assign the same name to the Tilia Graph (.tgf) file and overwrite any other file with the same name in that directory. Any previous work done with a .tgf file with that name (e.g., harding.tgf) will be lost! Either specify a new name or load the .tgf file (instead of the .til file) to edit your previous work. Once the file has loaded press [A] Make Diagram then [B] View Diagram to display the percentage file diagram. ![]() The + and - keys zoom in and out. Note which of the rare types you prefer not to plot. Press Esc to exit to the menu. |
Press [D] Edit to modify the list of pollen types to be plotted. ![]() Use the up and down arrow keys to scroll through the list and select (highlighted) pollen types. Press F4 to skip the types you don't want plotted. The sequence of the pollen types can be changed using the block commands. Select a single type with ^R or the beginning and end of a block with ^B & ^K. Move to where you want to insert the row or block and press Shift+Ins together. When you are satisfied with the sequence, press Esc to return to the menu and then select [A] followed by [B] to check your work. |
Press [E] Graph Style to specify the kind of curve plotted. ![]() Select [A] All Graphs, then select Silhouette (the default) and press Esc to return to the Graph Style menu. Select [B] Select Graphs, and then scroll up and down with the arrow keys and select (check) the rare types by pressing Enter. Press Esc to return to the Graph Style menu, then select Silhouette, followed by [B] Exaggeration. Press [A] Factor and enter "10" for a 10X exaggeration of the types you checked. Press Esc until you are at the main menu. |
Press [F] Text to enter a [B] Diagram Heading (Height = 0.6).
Press Enter repeatedly to scroll down and exit to the text menu.
Press Esc and then plot the diagram (press [A] then [B]).

Experiment with the other menu options in the main menu.
When you are satisfied with the diagram's appearance, exit
Tilia Graph. Press [Q] Quit You will use the Tilia View program to plot the diagram. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PRINT THE DIAGRAM USING TILIA GRAPH on the lab computer (room 332)! |
