  • Computational Geoscience Center (CGC) Hosts Short Course

    Smiling students in a classroom with computers Professor Andy Cohen's Hominin Sites and Paleolakes Drilling Project sponsored a four-day short course (Oct 7-10) in our Computational Geoscience Center. UA Geosciences' Computational Geoscience Center is a unique facility that brings together students, faculty and professionals in industry and government for training, teaching, and research using state-of-the-art platforms for computational methods applied to geodynamics, geophysics, and climate and ocean modeling.

  • Ecuador Rapid Array Mobilization Project Team Returns from First Service Run

    Researchers and a family in front of a house in EcuadorProfessor Susan Beck, post­doctoral researchers Rob Porritt and Colton Lynner and graduate student Daniel Portner are part of an international response to record af­tershocks and study the M=7.8 megath­rust Pedernales earthquake that occurred on April 16, 2016, off-shore Ecuador along the subduction zone plate boundary. Colton and Daniel recently returned from the first service run of the experiment. Service runs are used to collect the data that has been recording on flash cards and check to make sure everything is running properly.

    Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources and Vanto Group to jointly sponsor mining leadership program

    The inaugural offering of the four-day program “Leadership: Inventing the Future, A Breakthrough Leadership Program for the Mining Industry and Its Stakeholders,” will be February 7-10, 2017, in Tucson, Arizona, and will be led by executives of the Vanto Group.
