Evaluate New Technologies for Health and Safety
We will test new technologies for their contribution
to hazardous exposures, such as heat, dust and diesel particulate
matter. The improved San Xavier Mine facilities and instrumentation
provided through the SFAz grant in concert with the hiring of an
additional public health faculty member focused on exposure assessment
in mining will raise our current highly regarded public health and
mining combined program to the level of a unique international center. We
anticipate that we will be considered as the global choice for evaluation
of health effects from exposure to mining processes and equipment,
as well as the preferred location for strategic planning to reduce
these adverse effects while maintaining productivity. See the
individual projects below for more details.
