UA's Unique Attributes

Post-Baccalaureate Certificates

Post-Baccalaureate Certificates (PBC) are available in three areas.

  • Rock Mechanics
  • Mine Health & Safety
  • Mine Information and Production Technology

Program Details

PhotoEach PBC program requires 15 units of graduate coursework with a grade of B or better. All courses are available via distance learning. Each course is the same as those offered to residential MS and PhD students, and is taught by professional faculty members and industry executives.

To be admitted to the PBC program, candidates should have two years of progressively responsible professional experience, preferably in a field related to the specific option selected for study.

No GRE exam is required for admission to the program. Applicants who do not have a degree from an English-speaking university must complete the TOEFL (or equivalent) to demonstrate proficiency in English.

Enrollment is limited to graduates of accredited engineering bachelors programs and other similar degrees (i.e., biology, chemistry, geology, industrial hygiene, physics, MIS, etc.) with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have completed the necessary prerequisites for a specific course.

Upon successful completion of the PBC program, the units may transfer into a Master of Engineering degree (a time limit of 6 years applies).

Cost

PBC tuition is the same as the Master of Engineering degree. As of Spring 2007, the rates are:

  • $2078.50/3 unit course for Arizona residents, or if your employer has a business address in Arizona
  • $2492.50/3 units course for non-residents of Arizona

Check the Master of Engineering website for more up-to-date information.

  1. Complete either an On-Line application form, or a pdf application form
  2. After approval from MGE Department, apply to the Graduate College for admission ($50 application fee)
  3. Register for courses through Continuing Education and Academic Outreach, ($25 processing fee)
  4. Pay tuition and registration fees to CEAO
