Timothy R. Snider, Chair
Timothy R. Snider is Chairman of Cupric Canyon Capital, LLC, a private
company owned by management and the Barclays Natural Resource
Investments division of Barclays Capital. The company is focused
on acquiring copper assets, both developed and undeveloped, and using
management’s unique experience and skill set for value creation.
Snider spent the majority of his career with Phelps Dodge Corporation,
beginning as an underground mine laborer in the Copper Queen operation
in Bisbee, Ariz. During his 37 years with Phelps Dodge, he
held numerous operational, technical, and exploration positions. During
the 1980’s and early 1990’s, he led Phelps Dodge’s
development of large scale, low-cost, solution extraction-electrowinning
process technology. Later, he launched the Candelaria mine
development project, which was Phelps Dodge’s first major mine
and concentrator in South America. Also, he led the operation
and modernization of the company’s largest mining operation
in Morenci and championed advancement in mine and process technology
throughout Phelps Dodge.
In 2003, Snider was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer
of Phelps Dodge Corporation. In 2007, he assumed the role of
President and Chief Operating Officer of Freeport-McMoran Copper
and Gold, Inc. upon Freeport’s acquisition of Phelps Dodge,
a position he held until his retirement from full time work in 2008. He
continues to consult with Freeport-McMoRan and other mining/metal
companies.
Mr. Snider has a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry and Geology from Northern
Arizona University and graduated from the Wharton Advanced Management
Program, University of Pennsylvania in 1996.
Mr. Snider is a Director and Chairman, Compensation
Committee – Compass
Minerals International, Inc. He is also the Chair of
the Board of Directors for the Lowell Institute for Mineral Resources.
