Board Member
John O. Marsden
John Marsden holds a B. Sc. Eng (Hons) in Mineral Technology from
Imperial College, University of London. He is a registered
Professional Engineer (Nevada) and has twenty-eight years of broad,
international experience in the management and design of major, innovative
copper, gold, silver, molybdenum and cobalt operations and projects
in the USA, Chile, Peru, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and the Congo
(DRC). He has held various operations and technical management
positions during nine years with Consolidated Gold Fields PLC and
eighteen years with Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc. (formerly
Phelps Dodge Corporation). Prior to starting his own consulting
business, Metallurgium, he was President of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold
Inc. and Senior Vice President of Phelps Dodge Mining Company. He
is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and has received
a number of industry awards, including the AIME Robert H. Richards
award, and the Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME)
Wadsworth and Taggart awards. He is active in SME and
serves on the Board of Romarco Minerals Inc., and several university
advisory boards. He has published widely on many
aspects of gold and copper extraction, and is the author of “The
Chemistry of Gold Extraction” (Second Edition, SME, 2006). He
holds 20 U.S. Patents. He lives in Phoenix, Arizona.
