New material and resources will be added frequently.

This page contains various resources, notes and figures related to GEOS 469/569, Seismic Data Processing (and Digital Filtering).  Material will be added as the semester progresses.

Syllabus-Spr06.569.pdf  Course Syllabus for Spring, 2006 (PDF document).

Lec-1-569-06.pdf  PowerPoint slides (saved as a PDF document) from Lecture 1, Wednesday, January 11, 2006.

Checking Fourier Coefficients.pdf  PDF 1-page file with helpful info on checking Fourier coefficients in Fourier series.  (Adapted from Lyons, L., 1998, All you wanted to know about mathematics but were afraid to ask, Vol. 2., Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, p. 161-162).

Fourier-Definitions-2006.nb Definitions of Fourier series and transforms as used in GEOS 469/569.  Non-calculating notebook).

FTnotes-06.nb  Mathematica notebook showing settings for "Fourier Parameters" appropriate for signal processing when using the "FourierTransform" and "InverseFourierTransform" commands in Mathematica. (Requires Mathematica or MathReader).

Fourier-definitions-2006.pdf Definitions of Fourier series and transforms as used in GEOS 469/569.

FOURIER40-06.xls  Fourier transform Excel worksheet for either 32 input values or 8 input values.  This requires the use of the Data Analysis packag3 in Excel.  Please read the notes in the worksheet for details on running the worksheet.

Discrete-FT-Example.nb  This is a Mathematica notebook showing the discrete Fourier transform of a boxcar.  You can change the input values to see the discrete transform of just about any discrete function.  (Requires Mathematica or MathReader).

MathReader for Mathematica notebooks.  MathReader is a free software application available from Wolfram Resources, Inc. (http://www.wolfram.com/products/mathreader/).  This utility allows you to print and view Mathematica notebooks (including animations), but calculations can not be changed.  A full version of Mathematica is needed to modify and run Mathematica notebook codes.  MathReader works on Windows, Mac, Linux and Unix platforms.
