Udall Center Call for Proposals for Fellows Program 2008-2009

The Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy announces a call for proposals for its Fellows Program for 2008-09. Fellows will be affiliated with the Center and will study an aspect of public policy.

Since the program's inception in 1990, the Center has hosted 106 Fellows from 36 departments at the UA.

With strong support from departments and colleges across campus, this program remains the only one of its kind at the UA and continues to draw first-rate policy scholars including a number of department heads and Regents' professors, as well as outstanding junior faculty. At a time of university-wide budgetary constraints, this program provides an opportunity to encourage and reward excellence in public policy scholarship.

The Center invites proposals on topics that span the range of public policy. The projects of previous Fellows tend to cluster in several thematic areas: environment and natural resources; women, minorities, and indigenous peoples; health and human development; the theory of democracy and institutions;conflict resolution and decision-making; economic development; and science, technology, and society.

For information please visit the Center's Web site at http://udallcenter.arizona.edu or email Pamela Dixon at padixon@u.arizona.edu.

Proposed Merger of the Arizona Geological Survey and the Arizona Dept of Mines and Mineral Resources

From Lee Allison, Director, Arizona Geological Survey:

Colleagues, my responses to questions and concerns we are getting about the governor's proposed merger of AZGS and ADMMR are posted on our website at www.azgs.az.gov and on my blog, www.arizonageology.blogspot.com.

We all know how stressful and uncertain change can be.Unfortunately, there is a lot of unfounded speculation circulating about what the merger means for the mining community and stakeholders of the department.I would be pleased to answer any questions you have or meet with you and your staff or stakeholders to discuss this further.
