ARIZONA-NEVADA ACADEMY OF SCIENCE

SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT

The Arizona - Nevada Academy of Science will offer the Bud Ellis Scholarship of $1000 to a graduating senior in Arizona or Nevada High Schools or Preparatory Schools. This one-year scholarship award is made to a student with an outstanding high school academic record and who intends to enter one of the institutions of higher learning in Arizona or Nevada the following year as a science or engineering major. Applications are limited to students in the top ten percent of their class who plan to continue in a field of science.

In each case, the cash award is sent to the college or university of the winner's choice and accredited to his/her account. The amount of the scholarship is not affected by any other scholarships received. All grants and scholarships awarded by the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science are intended for the recipient only, and cannot be used for administrative or institutional services of any kind.

The name of the award winner will be announced at the Annual meeting of the Arizona - Nevada Academy of Sciences.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION CAREFULLY

Deadline for completed applications is January 15, each year. Students are responsible for seeing that the application is complete and the letters of recommendation are forwarded. Incomplete applications which do not include SAT or ACT scores, Principals or Counselor's comments, letters of recommendation and a letter from the applicant on career plans will not be eligible.

The applications are judged by a committee of the Arizona-Nevada Academy of Science. The committee regards high grades in four years of mathematics and science with corresponding high scores on the math and science parts of the college entrance test as minimum requirements for the scholarship. A well written letter which is neat in appearance and describes activities in the High School and career goals is used by the judges in the final decision.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION NEEDED FOR THE APPLICATION:

1. Write a letter stating the activities you have participated in, the honors and awards you have received, your career plans, choice of University and reasons for your decisions. The letter must be typed and neat.
   
   
2. Ask two teachers and one person outside your school and family to write letters of recommendation. These should be sealed and sent to the Chair of the Scholarship Committee. (They can be included with this application if sealed).
   
   
3. Make sure that page 2 of this application is given to the Principal or other high school official, filled out and mailed with a transcript which shows ACT or SAT scores.
