Logistics & Schedule

The size of the group will be ~20 students, and thus a student/instructor ratio of 5:1 is maintained throughout the course. The instructors (Mihai Ducea and Mark Barton) have extensive research and teaching experience in the geology of western North America, and with the regional geology of eastern California in particular. The field school departs from and returns to Tucson in university vehicles. Travel will be entirely in university vehicles; no personal vehicles are allowed. We will be staying at the University of California’s White Mountains Research Station (WMRS), Bishop and Crooked Creek facilities. These exceptional facilities provide room and board as well as classroom, internet and many other facilities.

More about the WMRS can be found online at http://www.wmrs.edu/.

PhotoEach student will need to bring rock hammer, map board, notebook, and hand lens. Brunton compasses, acid bottles, and all mapping base materials will be provided. A detailed equipment list will be distributed to all students accepted into the program.
