Distribution of Camels (family Camelidae)
|
|
Camelidae:
Camels occur in Old World deserts and the Andes region of South
America. This southern hemisphere distribution might be thought
to suggest a Gondwannan origin. However, the current distribution
is a remnant of a nearly cosmopolitan distribution during the
Tertiary, and the earliest fossils of camels come from North America,
where they have been extinct since the last glaciation. www.natureserve.org/infonatura/speciesIndex/Family_Camelidae_122952_1.htm |
